LAWYERS CARE VOLUNTEER ATTORNEY PROGRAM

 

The Lawyers Care Volunteer Attorney Program assists low income residents of its service area obtain pro bono legal assistance in civil legal matters. Lawyers Care offers assistance to residents of Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Green, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Simpson, Taylor and Warren Counties. The legal assistance offered by this Program is made possible through the volunteer efforts of the more than one hundred attorneys in the Program's service area. These attorneys donate their time and expertise to insure that everyone, regardless of their income, receives equal access to the justice system

 

Lawyers Care can assist applicants obtain pro bono representation in areas such as:

consumer:  debt collection, contracts, utility debts, bankruptcy, etc.

health:  living wills, medicaid, medicare, ets.

wills/estates:  will preparation, probate of small estates, etc.

family:  dissolution of marriage, adoption, name changes, visitation, custody, etc.

income:  job discrimination, wage claims, SSI, Social Security, disability, unemployment, workers comp, etc.

 

 

In addition to the services Lawyers Care offers to low income members of its service area, the Program also serves to promote the efforts of its volunteer attorneys. Their contributions are the heart of the Lawyers Care program.

 

Lawyers Care offers the following services to its volunteers

* secondary malpractice insurance for cases referred through the  Program

* free continuing legal education training

* sample in forma pauperis pleadings

* reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses for cases referred through the Program

* recognition through bar association publications and local media

* reporting of volunteer hours for Kentucky Bar Association standard
